Feeding Neighbors in Need

The Food Bank supplies 8.9 million pounds of food a year to over 200 food pantries, shelters and children’s programs across 11 counties in North Alabama. Each dot on the map above represents one of our partner feeding programs.

Our partners are often churches and civic groups working together to provide hot meals or food boxes to families on a daily, weekly or monthly basis.

Together each year, we feed over 80,000 residents a year including 10,470 pre-school children living in families struggling to pay for food and other basic necessities.

During times of disaster, our collaborative network provides residents with critical supplies of emergency food and water. In the wake of the 2011 tornadoes, for example, the Food Bank supplied over 3 million pounds of emergency food and water to residents and partner feeding programs impacted by the storms despite massive power outages.

We encourage our partner feeding programs to operate on a client-choice system where families select the foods that best fit their dietary needs. This style of service prevents waste, supports personal dignity and empowers families to make their own food choices.
