Summer Meals Program

When school lets out, thousands of low-income children across north Alabama miss the school breakfasts, lunches and after school snacks they received during the school year. Our Summer Meals Program ensures that low-income children continue to receive nutritious meals even when schools are not in session.

During the 2015-16 school year, only 20% of children in Alabama who qualified for free or reduced-price meals at school had access to free meals over the summer. The good news is that the Food Bank of North Alabama, the Alabama Association of Food Banks, school districts, churches, and nonprofits are working together to bridge this needless gap and launch more Summer Meal sites in North Alabama. During summer 2017, we sponsored 31 summer feeding sites across North Alabama, reaching over 1900 children and serving over 18,500 meals.

Kids and Teens eat free this summer. See below or click here for a site near you!
